Meet Debbie Diaz-Arnold, a dedicated Board Certified Special Education Advocate (BCASE) serving Virginia. Her thirty-year career in public education includes over a decade in the classroom and extensive leadership as a principal and assistant principal within Fairfax and Fauquier County schools.
Inside the IEP Room
With her background in school administration, Debbie provides an invaluable perspective on institutional operations. She understands the mechanics of school-based decision-making, ensures strict adherence to legal mandates, and spots opportunities where a child's potential might be overlooked by the system.
Prior to focusing on family advocacy, Debbie shared her expertise by training the educators who lead today's IEP meetings. As an Adjunct Professor at the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education and Marymount University, she instructed graduate-level courses in Special Education Collaboration, Characteristics, and Behavior Management.

What does a special education advocate do?
An advocate helps you understand your child's rights, prepares you for meetings, reviews records and evaluations, and often attends IEP or 504 meetings with you. The goal is to make sure your child gets appropriate services and that your voice is heard in the process.
Are you an attorney?
No. I'm a special education advocate, not a lawyer, and I don't provide legal advice or represent families in due process hearings or court. Most concerns are resolved long before it comes to that — but if yours calls for legal help, I'll refer you to a qualified attorney.
Do you work virtually, and what areas do you serve?
I serve families across Virginia's Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia, and I work with parents virtually as well, so we can prepare and even attend meetings together no matter where you are.
What does it cost?
The first consultation is free. After that, fees depend on what you need — a single meeting, a full records review, or ongoing support. We'll agree on the scope before any work begins, so there are no surprises.
